GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The school year is coming to an end, but some new changes are just beginning.

Jenny Nipper was selected as the new Assistant Superintendent for Garfield Re-2 School District for the 2025-26 school year.

Nipper started her career in the district as a substitute teacher. She then became a math and science teacher at Rifle Middle School and Riverside Middle School. After gaining experience as the assistant principal, Nipper was named Principal at Rifle Middle School in 2017.

“I am looking forward to the future of our district,” Nipper said. “Three years ago, we embarked on our strategic plan, and we have worked hard at it. It’s not perfect, but it is guiding us, and things are happening that are good for kids and for our community.”

Applicants were interviewed by a committee of parents, teachers and administrators. Community members also shared their input at a meet and greet.

Nipper will take the position from Lisa Pierce. Pierce is retiring from the position after five years. Nipper will start transitioning to the position at the end of the school year.

“I want to be a part of the conversation about the future,” she said. “I love this district, this community and our families. I want to use the skills I have for the longest amount of time in Garfield Re-2 to do the most amount of good that I can.”

The appointment is pending board approval. The decision will be finalized at the school board meeting on May 28.
