An arrest has been made in connection with the stabbing death early April 23 in East Topeka of Donald C. Eteeyan, 48, of Topeka, police said.

Taken into custody was Paul J. Gladney Jr., 36, of Topeka, said Lt. Donna Eubanks.

Gladney was booked at 11:55 a.m. April 24 into the Shawnee County Jail, where he was being held without bond April 25 in connection with one felony count of intentional and premeditated first-degree murder, according to jail records.

Formal charges hadn't been filed.

Gladney was also being held on a $1,640 bond on outstanding Topeka Municipal Court misdemeanor warrants, those records said.

Eteeyan was Topeka's fifth homicide victim this year



Police and rescue workers were called about 12:45 a.m. April 23 to the stabbing scene in the area of S.E. 2nd and California Avenue near Ripley Park, where they found Eteeyan suffering from life-threatening injuries, Eubanks said.

Eteeyan died after being taken to a Topeka hospital, she said.

He was Topeka's fifth homicide victim this year.
