The Volvo 7800 Electric is a double-articulated bus with a length of 25.6 metres and can carry up to 300 passengers. As a single articulated bus with a length of 18.5 metres, it can transport up to 191 passengers. The bus will be equipped with the latest active safety systems from Volvo Buses, which improve safety for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

The new articulated or double-articulated bus is based on the new Volvo BZR electric mobility platform, which Volvo Buses presented in March 2024 and which was originally intended for the European market. According to the information provided at the time, the platform was actually intended for vehicles with a length of 9.5 to 14.9 metres, but the Volvo 7800 Electric is significantly longer due to the articulations.

As is typical for the 600-volt BZR platform, the Volvo 7800 Electric has two 200 kW electric motors. In the 7800 Electric, these can be combined with a battery capacity of 540 to 630 kWh (single articulated bus) or 540 to 720 kWh (double articulated bus). The electric buses can be charged by cable with up to 250 kW DC, with the charging port located at the front right.

“We are accelerating the transformation to sustainable and efficient transport solutions to further improve the public transport system in Mexican cities. This will not only have a positive effect for the operators and the passengers, but it will also improve the quality of life for citizens in cities,” said Rafael Kisel, President of Volvo Group Mexico. He added: “With the launch of the new Volvo 7800 Electric here in Mexico, we are taking a solid step in our transition towards electromobility in the country, ensuring cleaner, safer, and more sustainable and reliable transport solutions for the BRT systems.”

Both the double-articulated and articulated buses will be manufactured at the Volvo Buses plant in Tultitlan in the greater Mexico City area. The first buses are expected to be delivered in 2026.
