A $1 billion vision for the expanse of land that once housed CrackerJax in Scottsdale is inching toward fruition as the developers of The Parque submitted their site plans to the city. According to a report by ABC15 , the mixed-use complex aims to enrich the area with residential and commercial offerings, including an 89-unit apartment structure, a 70-unit condominium, and a variety of retail and dining spaces. These initial developments intend to set the stage for a broader construction project, approved by the Scottsdale City Council two years prior, which will encompass over 2 million square feet of new infrastructure. The sprawling 30-acre site at 16001 N Scottsdale Road will eventually accommodate approximately 1,236 dwelling units, a sizable 223-room hotel, and a 150,00-square-foot office building but the immediate focus is on the residential and retail structures and a 1.7-acre park that will form the heart of The Parque; this phase has been detailed in the plan submission on March 10, with a review meeting by the Scottsdale Development Review board pending for March 20. A glimpse at the economic momentum in North Scottsdale, and specifically The Parque's role in it, can be framed by the fact that its developer, George Kurtz of cybersecurity fame and Texas-based Nelsen Partners as the project's architect, are joining big names like Cavasson, One Scottsdale, and Optima Mountain Village in transforming the landscape with ambitious mixed-use projects, as detailed by the Phoenix Business Journal . A referendum vote will decide the future of Axon’s proposed mixed-use campus and 1,895 residential units in North Scottsdale, sparking a conversation about its impact on the community. Meanwhile, business growth continues as Kurtz invests further, having purchased CrackerJax for $55.5 million and the Promenade Shopping Center for $180 million.
