SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man is facing multiple charges after breaking into his parole officer’s home and fighting with police.

According to online court documents, Michael Joseph Sheets, 43, faces charges for first and second-degree burglary, first-degree terrorizing, disarming an officer and three counts of resisting arrest.

A confined docket hearing is scheduled for Mar. 31 and a counsel status hearing is scheduled for Apr. 14.

According to the probable cause statement, on Mar. 18, at 9:50 p.m., Springfield Police officers were dispatched to a residence for an active burglary. The victim told police someone was actively kicking in his door and trying to break in.

When officers arrived, Sheets allegedly broke into the front door and attempted to prevent them from entering the home. The victim came into the room to help open the door to allow police inside.

Sheets ran and hid inside a bedroom before allegedly charging at the officer. Tasers were used on Sheets as he ran out the front door. Police say Sheets continued to fight and resist arrest, even with more officers helping, before grabbing an officer’s taser and attempting to use it. Officers were able to disarm him before he could deploy it.

The victim told police he was Sheets’ parole officer and had no idea how he was able to find where he lived. The victim stated when Sheets broke open the door, he prevented him from leaving his home until police arrived.

Sheets has been convicted of resisting arrest in 2015, 2019 and 2021. He is currently on probation for possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest causing death or injury.
