LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – An alleged social media threat directed at Jessie Clark Middle School in Lexington prompted increased security measures and concern from families Friday morning. However, school officials now say the situation has been resolved safely. According to messages sent to families by Jessie Clark Middle School Principal Jennifer Kendall, the threat, which circulated widely on social media Thursday night, was quickly investigated by school administrators and law enforcement. The messages were shared with ABC 36 News. Principal Kendall initially reassured parents and guardians that strict safety protocols were in place, including controlled access to the school and increased police presence. “No one is allowed to enter our school without being buzzed in,” Kendall stated in the message. “Once inside, people still cannot go past the front foyer. If anyone tried, law enforcement would intercept them first. Our top priority is our kids’ safety.” In a follow-up statement released Friday morning, Kendall confirmed the origin of the threat had been identified and the person responsible had admitted to making a false threat. Kendall emphasized that everyone and everything at the school is safe. “The person who made the statement has taken responsibility for making the false threat,” Kendall said. The school confirmed it will provide excused absences for any students whose families chose to keep them home due to the safety concerns. “FCPS law enforcement is aware and has been investigating multiple tips involving a possible threat against Jessie Clark Middle School. At this point, we believe there is no credible threat to JCMS. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be extra officers stationed on the JCMS campus today.”
