Sam Landry threw five innings, allowing just one hit, as the top-ranked OU softball team started a three-game series at Missouri with an 8-0, five-inning victory on Friday. The Sooners got all the offense they needed in the first four batters, as Gabbie Garcia belted a three-run home run in the first. Abigale Dayton drew a four-pitch walk to begin the game before Nelly McEnroe-Marinas delivered a single to left. Garcia’s home run, which came on the first pitch she saw, was her team-leading 10th of the season and extended her hitting streak to 15 games. OU’s offense went mostly dormant until the fifth, when they broke through for five more runs to put the game in run-rule territory. McEnroe-Marinas delivered a two-run homer to score Dayton and then three batters later, Ella Parker belted a three-run home run to right center. The homer was Parker’s fifth of the season but first since Feb. 28. Garcia finished 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs. Garcia now has eight hits in the last three games. Parker retired the first eight hitters she faced before Claire Cahalan reached on an error and Julia Crenshaw delivered a single to left. Missouri put two on with one out in the fourth with a walk and a hit by pitch, then retired the side in order to end the game. Landry improved to 8-0. The Sooners (28-0, 7-0 SEC) will take on the Tigers in the second game of the three-game series at 2 p.m. Saturday.
