Lacrosse fans couldn't have asked for more from the 2025 national championship game.

The top two teams in the nation will square off with No. 1 Cornell facing No. 2 Maryland to determine the champion of the 2025 NCAA men's lacrosse tournament. The Big Red defeated Penn State 11-9 in Saturday's first semifinal, while the Terrapins advanced past Syracuse with a 14-8 win in the second semi.

Cornell may be the No. 1 team in the country with a rich history, but it will be the one attempting to break a drought in Monday's title game.

The three-time national champion has not lifted the trophy since 1977 and fell just short with an overtime loss to Syracuse in 2009. By comparison, Maryland is not far removed from its last national championship, which it won in 2022.

The Terrapins also hold the Division I record with 30 NCAA semifinal appearances and are just one win away from adding another title to their illustrious history.

But that last victory will be anything but easy.

Cornell's only loss of the season came against Penn State in an overtime showdown in March, but the Big Red earned revenge on the sport's biggest stage with Saturday's win. The Nittany Lions couldn't stop Hugh Kelleher, who notched a hat trick and one assist as he spearheaded the offense.

It was more of the same for a Cornell team that has been an offensive juggernaut all season.

The Big Red have scored in double digits in every one of their games in 2025 and even scored 20 or more goals in four of their contests. That's a lot of firepower to deal with for a Terrapins squad that has been strong defensively but may not be able to keep up with the trophy on the line.

Maryland has some momentum after yet another win over Syracuse after also defeating the Orange in February, but it seems like Cornell is destined for a national title this time around.
