SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Do you call it a loose meat? Sloppy Joe? Tavern? Maid Rite?

It’s a sandwich well-known here in the Midwest: ground beef, on a bun. But the sauce, much like its name, is up for debate.

So when Eliza Andrew got a text from her father, she never expected that request to turn into a viral moment.

“Can you make me a t-shirt with Sioux City, Iowa... he lives in Massachusetts... Sioux City, Iowa on the front and home of the loose meat sandwich on the back, preferably over a picture of a loose meat sandwich. Maybe for Father’s Day?” said Andrew in her now-viral video .

Andrew says these requests aren’t unusual from her dad, but this one was a little out there.

“I’ve never heard him talk about a loose meat sandwich in my entire life,” she told KTIV in an interview Monday morning.

So she made a TikTok about the request, and it went viral. Soon, comments began flooding her inbox from across the country and right here in Siouxland, from people with ties to Sioux City.

“When I started to see the comments of ‘I’m from Sioux City,’ ‘I’m from Iowa,’ ‘You made it over here’ and I saw the likes on those comments, too,” she said, “I was like, there are so many people over there that have seen this!”

So, she made the t-shirt , created a website and the sales started rolling in.

“I’ve sold about a hundred, which is crazy!” she said. “I think I’ve gotten an order from every single state, which is crazy.”

She grew up in Maryland and has never been to Sioux City, and now wants to plan a trip with her dad.

“I called him and I said, ‘Dad, people from Sioux City have seen the video and they love the shirt, they also want to buy a shirt.’ But he really wants to get in on the action and I think we are going to do a trip to Sioux City now and walk around in the shirts because it’s just so fun,” said Andrew. “If everyone is going to be walking around in one of my shirts, I”m going to come and just start throwing them out to people. I need one of those t-shirt guns and I’ve just going to walk around town!"

Her dad, she says, loves a good sandwich. And though she’s never had or even heard of a “loose meat sandwich” before this, she’s determined to try one and make a trip to the now-famous Sioux City, Iowa.
