Springfield is a small town with less than 300 people. Folks who live on Ghost Road in Springfield say every mud season is a challenge, but this year the road is totally blocked after a storm ripped out a culvert on Wednesday. Residents say some people can't drive to their homes and when they approached the town about repairs, they say town officials suggested it was a private road. They say they are worried about emergency crews too. "It's always a possibility when you're working out in the woods, doing things, anything could happen to you,” said Richard Hawley, a Springfield resident. "It's a pretty big deal because you got people living back here, you can't get food, this guy is supposed to walk it, he's 70 years old. He's supposed to walk his groceries,” said Jeffrey Burns, a Springfield resident. Members of the volunteer fire department say they face challenges accessing that area each mud season, but deal with the conditions as best they can and call on additional resources for help if necessary.
