CLEVELAND, Ohio — Big East runner-up Marquette faces New Mexico in a March Madness first round game today – Friday, March 21 – at Rocket Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7:25 p.m. Eastern on TBS .

This game marks the first meeting this season between the two schools. The Golden Eagles were 14-8 against conference opponents, while the Lobos were 18-4 in the Mountain West Conference.

Marquette is 9-2 in non-conference play and connects on 9.4 shots from 3-point range each night. New Mexico scores at an average of 81.2 points per contest.

Kam Jones shoots 48.5% from the field for Marquette and averages 19.3 points per game. He is supported by David Joplin, who has poured in an average of 13.1 points over his last 10 games.

The Lobos are led by Donovan Dent’s 20.6 points per game. Dent also pulls down 2.3 rebounds each game for the Lobos. Tru Washington a threat from deep, connecting on 1.2 shots from beyond the arc in his last 10 outings.

Marquette is 5-5 in its last 10 games and has seen its scoring pace dip to just below 75 per night. The Eagles are shooting 44.1% from the floor during that stretch.

New Mexico is 7-3 since Feb. 8 and are scoring 76 points while grabbing an average of 33.2 rebounds during that stretch. The New Mexico defense has been solid lately, holding opponents to 68.7 points over the last three weeks.
