SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -The Hampden District Attorney’s Office will be hosting its annual ‘Stop the Swerve’ event and is inviting community members to take part.

This event taking place on Wednesyday at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame at 5:30 p.m. accompanied by law enforcement officials, safety advocates and local community leaders.

Participants will get the chance to try out activities like impaired driving simulation goggles, experience distracted driving exercises and hear powerful stories from individuals affected by reckless driving.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni says 10,000 lives a year are lost to drunk driving alone making this event is a great way to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired or distracted driving.

High school student attendees who are of eligible driving age are encouraged to enter a raffle to attend driving school for free, sponsored by the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

Winning entries will be announced at the event, earning cash prizes for their schools.
