KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Our newest information continues to point to a risk for severe weather Sunday, with a better chance Monday. A First Warn continues Sunday for severe storms that initiate west of Kansas City late Sunday afternoon. These storms race east, arrive in Kansas City during the evening and push through western Missouri overnight. A low tornado threat, along with damaging wind and hail, exists early over eastern Kansas. The tornado threat diminishes with damaging winds and hail more likely around Kansas City and into Missouri. The atmosphere reloads Monday across all of our neighborhoods with stronger signals for all types of severe weather. Due to the greater risk on Monday, we issued our highest alert, FIRST WARN WEATHER DAY . Individual storms erupt Monday afternoon. These storms feature our greatest chance for tornadoes. The discrete storms are likely to develop into a bigger system during the evening. As this happens, the threat of tornadoes decreases while the possibility of damaging winds and hail continues. Also, the heavy rain from these storms introduces the possibility for localized flooding on Monday and Tuesday. Saturday : Our most comfortable day this weekend features low humidity, a mostly sunny sky and highs in the upper 70s. Sunday : FIRST WARN for storms Sunday evening. You will notice the increase of warmth, humidity and faster breezes. Highs climb into the lower 80s. A strong cap keeps us mainly dry during the afternoon, with a few spotty storms possible. A better chance for storms develops around sunset. Storms will be strongest in the first few hours and weaken a bit as they head east. Lawrence, Ottawa and Garnett are under the highest risk, a level 3 of 5. Other communities, including Kansas City, have a 2 out of 5 risk. Tornadoes are possible in the first few hours, then the threat transitions to hail and high winds. A higher threat for a few tornadoes, larger hail and damaging winds exists across all neighborhoods Monday afternoon and evening. This is our first round of storms, and likely our strongest. Another round is likely late in the evening and overnight. We cannot rule out a possible tornado with these storms before they merge into a big cluster of storms that keep our chance of hail and damaging winds. Heavy rain introduces the possibility of flooding. Tuesday: First Warn for leftover morning storms and a continuing threat for flooding. Becoming dry with increasing sunshine and cooler than average highs near 70°.
