NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Metro Police say precision policing efforts led to the Saturday night arrest of 21-year-old Rico Ransom, a murder suspect who was armed and wearing an ankle monitor while free on bond.

Detectives with the Specialized Investigations Division’s TITANS unit spotted a black Dodge Challenger committing multiple traffic violations before it pulled into a gas station at 26th Avenue North and Clarksville Pike. After observing the vehicle for an extended period, officers approached—but the driver sped off toward Buchanan Street.

A spike strip was deployed to disable the vehicle’s tires. Ransom, identified as the driver, temporarily stopped on Heiman Street, where detectives ordered him out. Instead, he fled again, throwing an AR-style pistol from the vehicle before continuing to Britt Place and fleeing on foot into a wooded area. He was quickly captured.

Ransom now faces charges of two counts of felony evading, felony gun possession, and driving on a revoked license. His bond was set at $28,000.

He is already under indictment for first-degree murder in the 2019 shooting death of Steven Shelton, 18, which occurred on 26th Avenue North. Ransom is scheduled to appear in Criminal Court on June 5.
